Who we are
Inspired by the village of Baragaon and the life of the weavers, they began with the aim of assisting weavers in distress. They are a team of philanthropists, designers and professionals, motivated to work towards the cause of handloom revival.
Where we work
They currently work with weavers in Baragaon and surrounding villages, in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. Baragaon is a small village around 40 kms east of the state capital – Lucknow, close to the popular pilgrimage shrines of Deva Sarif and Basa Sharif.
How we Work
Their mandate is to work with all weavers in India who are struggling under the onslaught of mechanization and exploitative middlemen.
The Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh was a noted cotton weaving cluster until a few decades back, when introduction of power looms and synthetic fibers forced the handloom weavers to abandon handloom weaving and move to cities as unskilled labourers. Baragaon Weaves is focused on restoring handloom weaving. At the same time, they are committed to providing fair wages and regular work to weavers.
Under the brand name of Baragaon Weaves they market pure cotton handwoven sarees, stoles, dupattas, scarves, running materials etc. They constantly work on increasing the offered product range. Their USP are their designs that are fresh with contemporary sensibilities. They are exploring new avenues of marketing like e-commerce, exhibitions and overseas sales. They are committed to provide fair wages and regular work to their weavers while providing high quality, fashionable products to the patrons.
