Fab India

Who We Are

The first Fabindia outlet was set up in 1961 by John Bissell to provide a platform for weavers and printers to market their produce. His son, William, is the current Managing Director of the company.

Fabindia is a registered private limited Indian company - Fabindia Overseas Private Limited. It has a staff of over 400 people across 10 cities.

Where we Work

Fabindia has adopted villages (in different parts of India including the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and many more) where the weavers and artisans produce exclusively for Fabindia.

Fabindia first opened in Delhi. Today, there are Fabindia stores in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. Fabindia exports to 28 countries worldwide and has stores in Dubai, UAE, and in Rome, Italy. In Connecticut, USA, Fabindia Inc. wholesales a collection of home textiles to various stores across the U.S.

How we Work

Fabindia works with craftsmen and women who make the products in their homes or their place of work. The organisation works closely with artisans, providing various inputs including design, quality control, access to raw materials and production coordination. It does not have a company owned production unit.

Fabindia has a consistent mark up price on all its products to reflect the crafts people’s creative investment in the products, but becoming a commercial entity is not the sole objective of Fabindia.

Fabindia retails its products through exclusive company-owned stores across India. Today, sixty per cent of Fabindia's production is export oriented, with the US and the UK being the major export markets.
