Who we are
We, Himadri Hans Handloom, a social organization and a trademark brand of The Hans Foundation, have been working towards empowerment of women artisans for 20 years, in one of the Himalayan region in India called, Almora, Uttarakhand. Himadri Hans Handloom is an initiative which began with few local women of Almora district in Uttarakhand State of India with the objective of taking the women towards empowerment and reviving the dying art of weaving from the hills.
After years of struggle and hard work, today the initiative has turned into two weaving centers, where almost 185 people are working out of which 95% are women, making world class handmade products for last many years. This initiative has not only helped women of the hills, but also it has taken the local art to international level with the expertise on fibers like Pure Cashmere (Pashmina), Alpaca, Lambswool, Merino, Hemp, Nettle, Silk, Cotton Bamboo yarn etc. Our product line includes Shawls, Stoles, Scarves, Throws, Blankets, running fabric along with Hand knitted Caps, Gloves, Sweaters, scarves etc. We can proudly say that our processes are ethical and follow sustainable fashion practices. To our accreditations like Handloom Mark, Craft mark and fair Trade certification.
‘The Hans Foundation’ supports charitable and social development programs by providing support to local non-governmental organizations. The interventions implemented by The Foundation range from grassroots level to national level programs. THF’s charitable programs are majorly implemented in the most rural and under-developed areas in the country.
Where we Work
We work with around 185local artisans in Almora district in Uttarakhand State of India. We have our 8 Retails outlets mainly in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, namely Almora, Kasar Devi Road, Mukteshwar and Ranikhet. We also sell through THFs head office in Ansal Plaza Mall, Andrews Ganj in New Delhi, India.
How we work
We have two weaving centers, where all the processes take place like Spinning, Drafting, Weaving, Hand Knitting, and Finishing etc. Artisans come everyday to these centers by bus service provided by the foundation then each one follows the day’s work in coordination with master weaver and supervisor. These women are given designs by our design team and told exactly how to process the design. The women then weave or knit the final products, bringing to life world-class products.
